This national historic landmark hotel was originally built by industrialist J.P. Morgan in the late 1800's as a private hunting and fishing club. Located on a remote Island off the coast of southern Georgia, the club became a respite for the wealthy industrialists of the day. Names like Edison, Ford, Rockefeller, Crane, and the like were frequent visitors and some built Cottages there. The island retreat contains some 33 historic structures including several original cottages. These cottages and the main club buildings have been renovated and converted into a elegant resort property. Over the past few years, DAS has been working closely with Jekyll Island Club on property-wide improvements including renovations to the Club's historic main dining room, a new lobby bar and lobby renovations, planning for a new Ballroom expansion, and the renovation and adaptive re-use of an historic indoor tennis building into a formal Ballroom and Conference. Currently, plans are also in the works for the development of a new 200 room beachfront hotel. |
