Just outside of Hopewell, NJ, located on 222 acres of rolling hills and lush fields, DAS created a turn of the century farm estate for a well-known sculptor and his wife. The owner's vision was to create an authentic 19th century working farm complete with outbuildings, barns, and utilitarian structures. Based on the owner's desire to be original and authentic, DAS researched farms throughout the northeastern US. The owners often said, "think of the farmer's need to be practical and utilitarian". When exploring options for site layouts and connecting pathways between the buildings, they would ask "how would the cows have gotten there?" Design and construction was based on recreating the ambience of a 100-year-old farm through use of reclaimed materials. The program included: the renovation of an existing late Victorian farm house, the construction of a new storage barn, a pool barn (houses an indoor pool and spa), two individual log cottages, a boathouse (located at the edge of the pond), and a main house. |
